Patients with congestive heart failure and treated with AVANDIA have an increased risk of cardiovascular events, and a greater increased risk of myocardial ischemia was also observed in patients who received AVANDIA. Avandia can cause fluid retention and increases blood volume. Negative hepatic (liver) effects (hepatic dysfunction, unexplained nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, anorexia and/or dark urine, distressed liver enzyme levels) have been scientifically documented.

The New England Journal of Medicine found that by taking Avandia, a person was 43 percent more at risk for heart attack. They also found that the risk of death from cardiovascular disease was 64 percent, and bone loss is accellerated, and the risk of fractures is increased.
